I was delighted to find some lovely new social media icons that seem to fit the blog nicely, all thanks to the great folks at Elegant Themes. These are completely free and include an icon for Pinterest, which is often overlooked, so I wanted to spread the word. Enjoy! Elegant Themes: Social Media Icons Download(…)
How amazing was the Biannual Blogathon Bash? It was awesome, it was epic, it was astounding. I got so much done. Around 1 a.m. UK time yesterday I was resigning myself to finishing up on 22 hours but thinking that would be great. But then I realised that the wrap up post was due by(…)
Well, so far I’m up to 20 hours on the Biannual Blogathon Bash (#blogathon2 on Twitter) and I was going to leave it there but thought I should push on a little bit more to finish the mini challenges that were on my list. Mini Challenge Updates Mini Challenge: Do Follow, No Follow links Goal:(…)

I found out about the Biannual Blogathon Bash (#blogathon2 if you’d like to follow on Twitter) had this idea that it would be fantastic to spend 24 hours over a 72 hour period working on the blog and getting through some of those things that constantly sit on the to-do list. Dave and I merged(…)
The Biannual Blogathon Bash (#blogathon2) Mini Challenge: Make Twitter Work For Your Blog Social media in itself can be a bit of a minefield – and then when you start throwing all the other stuff into the mix, like apps and tools, it gets a bit crazy. But here are a couple of tools you(…)
Earlier this year I had the amazing good fortune to attend the Social Media Success Summit. I learnt so much that it blew my mind and it has substantially changed my way of thinking about blogging, Facebook, Pinterest and Twitter. Therefore, when I received an email about the upcoming Social Media Examiner’s Success Workshop: Blogging(…)
This has been a very busy week, with little time for reading (shock horror!). Back on track next week, however, with three authors visiting the blog and some reviews lined up. In the meantime, I thought I’d share this bit of fun I created… or rather, that Visual.ly cleverly created for me – I’ll be(…)
I’m running my final ‘Authors on…’ linky today and all authors are welcome to add their details. It seems that the ‘easy to use’ Google Friend Connect is going to be a thing of the past from 2012 – unless you use Blogger. As I don’t use Blogger – and won’t be moving (sorry Google!) – my GFC widget will shortly be no more. I really don’t want to lose you as(…)
A ‘Call to Action’ is a tool that is available for promoted videos on YouTube. Promoted videos are linked in with AdWords, enabling you to get more views (as long as you pay for it). But we all know that getting a click to a video to convert to a click to your Amazon page(…)
Today, however, is the official launch of CommentLuv Premium for those who weren’t fortunate enough to bag an early bird copy. I’ve had CommentLuv Premium installed for some time now and definitely rate it highly. My comments have hugely increased but more than that it’s increased my opportunity to engage with people, not just by actually allowing me to see their profiles and discover their blogs.
Recently someone appeared on my blog for an interview and afterwards emailed me to say ‘How long did it take you to build your blog? I wouldn’t know where to start making something like that’. Well, thank you to them both for appearing and for the lovely comment. The answer was a couple of hours but based on two years of learning. Over those two years there are some plugins I’ve come to know and love and my first step on any new blog is installing them. Here’s the list, including a couple of recent – but fabulous – additions.
I like Reddit – or at least I used to – but I can’t help but wonder if it’s becoming a downvoter’s paradise and if it’s time to ditch that up/down scheme in favour of a more positive ‘like it or move on’ approach. Why? Because any down vote option seems to bring out the very worst in people.
