Book Review: The Truth About Us – Dalene Flannigan

Book Review: The Truth About Us – Dalene Flannigan

Review: The Truth About Us (2011) I had The Truth About Us  on my ereader for quite a while and started reading it before checking over the synopsis again so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I found a story of three friends, both bound together and torn apart by a deep secret, which – as(…)

Book Review: Afterwards – Rosamund Lupton

Book Review: Afterwards – Rosamund Lupton

Review: Afterwards (2011) It’s going to be difficult to review Afterwards without giving too much away, so excuse me if I’m deliberately vague. Afterwards is one of those stories that evolves bit by bit and if you rush it, you run the risk of spoiling the whole thing. There is a fire and a mother,(…)

Book Review: Twice Bitten – Joe Perrone Jr

Book Review: Twice Bitten – Joe Perrone Jr

Review: Twice Bitten  Many years ago, I remember watching an episode of UK crime drama Taggart where someone was planting venomous snakes in people’s houses and this book brought it all back. Approaching Twice Bitten, the third Matt Davis Mystery, I was under no illusions that snakes may have something to do with the storyline(…)

Book Review: Signs of Life – Anna Raverat

Book Review: Signs of Life – Anna Raverat

Review: Signs of Life What can I say about Rachel? Well, I don’t understand her, that’s for damn sure but that’s no surprise because you pretty quickly gather from the book that she doesn’t seem to even ‘get’ herself. Despite a comfortable life with a solid relationship, she’s unsettled and that leads to an affair(…)

Book Review: Amador Lockdown – Coral Russell

Book Review: Amador Lockdown – Coral Russell

Review: Amador Lockdown I don’t find American horror films particularly scary and haven’t done for many years now. Whenever I have the inclination to be terrified I turn to South Korean and Japanese horror films which always leave me unnerved. It’s a while since I read horror and I don’t recall the last time I(…)

Book review: The Vaults

I will admit that I have struggled with this review because while I enjoyed The Vaults, it didn’t blow me away and I have spent several weeks trying to put my finger on why. To no avail. Toby Ball is a good writer, with a clear voice and a good attention to to detail but something about the book just didn’t sit well with me.
